Digital Self Service is the leading supplier of self-service kiosks to the UK rail and hotel industries. We design, manufacture, deploy and support thousands of public use TVMs (Ticket Vending Machines) across the UK Rail network.
These machines are deployed in various environments and locations that range from friendly (e.g. inside luxury hotels) to hostile (unmanned remote railway stations open to weather and vandalism). The machines return average availability figures that exceed 99% in any given period measured against 24×7 operations.
In addition Digital Self Service, a highly innovative team, are now delivering a new range of products & concepts targeting Digital Signage including interactive ‘Wonderwall’s.
The Product Development Manager will report directly to the Head of Product Delivery and Assurance and responsible for developing and assuring New Hardware solutions, upgrades and retrofits into Production.
Product Delivery Manager Responsibilities
A hands on Hardware Mechanical and Electrical Engineer required to lead and develop New Products and drive specific engineering improvements.
The role is involved in the design and development of Rail & Retail Vending products, and Interactive Digital Signage from initial concept through to manufacture, support/service lifecycle can be broken down into the following categories:
Leading analysis for new product development, problem resolution, end of life alternatives, enhancements
•Mechanical Engineering (using DFMA principals)
•Electrical Engineering (Electrical analysis including power consumption, resistance, electrical noise)
•Solid experience of Developing New Products (preferably rail or digital signage) considering EOL, standardisation, compatibility, fitness for purpose end to end solution etc)
•Solid end to end knowledge of the Product Development Life-Cycle and typical problems associated with the implementation of information systems, from initial concept through development and implementation to operation and support (PLM)
•Ensuring robust change process throughout development of the solution (including BOM control, formal test plans, up revving documentation etc)
•Working with the bid teams to ensure appropriate level of product focus to ensure accurate RFP’s are submitted with appropriate time and cost estimates
•Clear logical approach to problem solving / troubleshooting
•Design and implement hardware implementation strategies/plans
•Creation/review of test procedures, test scripts, test cases in collaboration with other team members
•Define test requirements to include failure modes, quality factors and specifications
•Perform volumetric testing of new unit and modifications
•Ensure the accurate documentation and communication of test results, issues and evaluation items through a tracking system
•Management and monitoring of field trials
•Supporting and developing engineering staff to ensure they are adequately trained, motivated and developed
•Ensuring new product or modification documentation is of the required standard for handover to our Engineering partner
•Final Quality approval for all units prior to despatch
•Wiring based on EMC best practice
•Understanding of latest EMC (aspects of EN55011, EN61000, EN50121) and safety standards (EN62368 & EN 60950)
•Ensuring products selected comply with CE guidelines
•Understanding of latest technology including RFID, Voice over IP, audio visual technologies and latest offerings in the market
•Understanding/development of drivers to be able to integrate new peripherals with software.
•Understanding of: •DNS

•Active directory knowledge
PC build configuration
•Installing software and drivers
•BTEC/HND or other relevant professional qualifications
•Full UK driving License
•Geographically mobile and willingness to work on client site as and when required
•Highly organised and motivated individual to drive work through to completion

Essential skills and experience
•5+ years hardware engineering experience
•5+ years electrical engineering experience
•Experience of developing new products, working with Design team
•Hands-on experience in resolving hardware issues
•Great attention to detail
•Good understanding of latest technologies
•Good communication skills to work with relevant teams
•Dedicated to delivering what has been agreed.
•Drive through results on time, on budget and to agreed quality
•A high level of consistency between communications and actions
•Must be a team player whilst being capable of managing their own workload in an efficient and timely manner
•Knowledge of Microsoft office applications
•Understanding of Regulatory approvals including CE & UL Marking, EMC and other certification processes
•Understanding of peripheral connection connectivity using RS232 and USB2/3
•2+ years Microsoft Server Technologies (Active Directory, SQL)
